Top 3 Summer Day Trips From Vancouver

Image via Josephine Lin

As one of the largest and most beautiful cities in Canada, Vancouver has no shortage of fun events and activities. However, if you’re looking to get out of the city for a day, then you’re in luck because there are plenty of great spots to visit for a day trip. From the popular alpine village of Whistler to one of the most scenic Gulf Islands, check out the top 3 summer day trips from Vancouver.

SALT SPRING ISLAND

If you’re after a lovely, relaxing day trip from Vancouver, Salt Spring Island is the place to be. This Gulf Island is just a short ferry ride from Vancouver and will have you arriving at Salt Spring Island’s Long Harbour ferry terminal. Once there, it’s time to explore all that this picturesque island has to offer. Hiking, swimming, shopping, and café hopping are a few of the most popular activities here. Plus, the main town of Ganges is famous for its outdoor farmers’ market (if it’s on while you’re there, it’s a must-see). Owing to the small size of the island, it’s easily doable in one day, just check the ferry schedules in advance.

WHISTLER

Whether you’re from Canada or not, you’ve probably heard of Whistler, BC. But this popular ski destination has lots going for it outside of ski season. To get there, you’ll drive along the Sea-to-Sky Highway (known for its spectacular views). Upon reaching Whistler, you’ll quickly discover that this famous ski town offers year-round activities, like hiking, golfing, and biking. See some incredible views on the Peak-to-Peak Gondola or enjoy lunch on a patio as you take in the surrounding mountains. We guarantee you’ll love this popular spot.

SQUAMISH

One final day trip from Vancouver? Squamish. Once a mining town, Squamish has quickly become a go-to destination for locals and visitors alike. It is located roughly an hour and a half from Vancouver and offers some of the best hiking in the province. It even has its own gondola, the Sea to Sky Gondola, which boasts incredible views of Mount Habrich, Sky Pilot, and Goat Ridge. If you’re into hiking, don’t miss out on hiking Stawamus Chief Mountain (the views from the top are nothing short of magical). Plus, if you’re heading to Whistler, you’ll pass Squamish on the way, which makes it an extremely convenient pit stop.

Overall, if you plan on visiting Vancouver this summer, we highly recommend embarking on a day trip to any one of the three locales above. And if you need a place to stay during your visit, you’re always welcome at the Hotel BLU Vancouver.
